General Information - Demographics:
Belarus (Republic of Belarus) is a country in Eastern Europe. The population as of January 1, 2018 is 9,491,823 inhabitants, the territory is 207,600 km2. The capital and the largest city of the country is the city of Minsk. The state languages are Belarusian and Russian. In the northwest the republic borders Lithuania, in the west with Poland, in the north with Latvia, in the east with Russia, in the south with Ukraine. There is the state type of health care organization in Belarus.

After graduation from a medical institute (6 years of education), one obtains a diploma as a General Physician. Then follows the year of internship in surgery. Then it is necessary to undergo two-month or four-month courses and work in the urological department for 2 years. Then there is the possibility of admission to clinical residency in urology, which lasts 2 or 3 years, depending on the choice of form of training. After the termination of residency follows the state examination on assignment of qualification of the doctor-urologist. Then, if desired, a certified urologist can engage in research activities, enrolling in a three-year postgraduate course, working on writing a dissertation and getting a degree of PhD.
After completing residency urologist may work as an: practical specialist in state or private hospitals, research fellow in clinical or research facilities conducting a research for obtaining degree of PhD, academic professional teaching students or interns being as assistant professor, docent or professor.
Clinic visits - Fellowship - Research Opportunities:
Practicing urologists have to raise level of one’s education visiting special courses (which are mandatory) at Belarussian State Academy of Post-graduate education. Practicing doctors are involved in visiting conferences, seminars and webinars. Urologists may undergo training programs abroad including programs in cooperation with the EAU for improving their practical both theoretical skills and continuing practical academic work after returning back home. Some of urologists are visiting annual European Urology Residents Education Programme (EUREP).
